Also known as the ‘red gold of Calabria’, the Tropea onion is an agricultural and food excellence of our country: it is, in fact, a PGI product known all over the world for its sweet and pleasant taste (it contains glucose, fructose and sucrose).
The Tropea onion is crispy and bright red in colour. It lends itself to a wide range of tasty culinary preparations. Its red colour is due to its high content of anthocyanins, polyphenolic sulphur compounds that belong to the flavonoid family.
